Activate the Void
(MYP Criteria: Application, Personal Engagement)
Learning Intentions:
Students will use their knowledge of line design from previous assignments to create 3-dimensional geometric shapes. With this project the students will demonstrate how one can see shapes out of negative space.
· Students will create three dimensional objects based upon line design
· Students first make a skeletal mainframe (a series of tooth picks glued in a line then, the lines are glued together to create a shape…which will be approved by the teacher)
· Upon this shape students will construct detailed line design
· When finished students will partake in a class critique
· Materials
o Toothpicks
o Bottle of wood glue
o Hot glue
o Tempra Paint
Directions
· Wood glue the tooth picks together "1 to 1" --
o Make about18-25 sets -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
·Connect 2 of your "1 to 1" sets together for a total of "4 in a row" ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
o Make at least 8 sets of 4 in a row
· Connect 1 of your "1 to 1" sets to your "4 in a row" set for a series of 6 toothpicks long. ------ ------ ------
· Cut them all to size
· Create a shape glueing the corners together with with hot glue. “Only use a little bit of hot glue you do not need a lot”
· Construct a form from the shape.
o add support
· Fill in sides with line design
o Parabolic curve
o Or any of the designs we used on the first worksheet we did in class
· All sides top and bottom must be filled in.
Success Criteria
We know we are successful when:

Success Criteria
We know we are successful when:
- Clean Craftsmanship
- No glue drips
- Lines are straight
- Use some of previous line design covered in other projects or from sketchbook
- Self Motivation and Independence
- Intricate Detail covers the entire armature (main-frame)
- Hanging detail either on the interior or exterior
- When painted, the painting is clean and not sloppy
1st
Create the shape with the lines of 6 toothpicks long
2nd
Add your detail to the mainframe/armature.
