About Mr. Chad
Chad Sperzel-Wuchterl
Ronald Reagan IB High School
Chad Sperzel-Wuchterl (Master of Visual Fine Art 2010; Bachelor of Visual Fine Art 2003) is a vital art instructor and fine art department chair at Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School—a nationally recognized International Baccalaureate school. He is a leader within the visual art community, developing both statewide partnerships and university networks to benefit a steady stream of young artists as they pursue post-secondary careers and college options.
As an educator, Mr. Sperzel-Wuchterl joined the Reagan High School staff in 2004 creating the school’s visual fine art program and developing a unique art curriculum that meets or exceed the IB World Average. His visual art program embraces diverse cultures and student skill levels within a rigorous International Baccalaureate teaching framework. He reaches across a broad range of grade levels (freshman, junior and senior courses) introducing novice art students to the visual art and then honing their unique talents within the upper grade levels. His teaching style is both engaging and challenging, sparking an interest among students that leads 90% of them to pursue a major or minor in art at the college level.
As a department chair, Mr. Sperzel-Wuchterl has constructed a vibrant network between his classroom and the community. He has established an expansive campus art gallery that is often toured by dignitaries from the State of Wisconsin, the Department of Public Instruction, and a multitude of university recruiters. He has championed beneficial relationships for his students within the stellar art programs offered at Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the Savannah College of Art and Design, UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Stevens Point. His high school students annually attend university-based workshops, critique sessions, and display their own work at college galleries. Beyond universities, his students’ work has been featured at Milwaukee City Hall, the Wisconsin State Capitol, Lakefront Festival of the Arts, Milwaukee Art Museum, and Milwaukee Gallery Night.
As a leader in education, Mr. Sperzel-Wuchterl actively participates within Reagan High School’s Learning Team, collaborating with other department chairs and Milwaukee Public School administrative leadership to ensure that the visual fine art remain a key component of public education. He has worked avidly within the Wisconsin Association of IB World Schools (WAIBS) to increase the impact of art programs in all Wisconsin IB schools setting a high standard and ensuring a global perspective within Wisconsin’s IB visual art classrooms.
As a professional artist, Mr. Sperzel-Wuchterl has generated striking compositions where “every new work is an experiment of familiar relationships.” His visually intriguing artwork has been sold in multiple galleries located in New York, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, Nebraska, California, and Canada.
