SCAD Pre College
Pre College-Summer Application process:
SCAD Pre-College Summer Programs overview.
For students who have completed freshman, sophomore, or junior year:
SCAD Summer Seminars offer week long workshops for high school students who have completed their freshman, sophomore or junior years. Students attend workshops and have an all-access pass to the university’s extensive facilities, resources, and libraries. Workshops may include demonstrations, lectures, studio work and local field trips, and are taught by SCAD professors, alumni or select graduate students. Living on campus and participating in plenty of organized events and activities allows students to experience SCAD and all it has to offer. This program is offered on our Atlanta, Hong Kong, and Savannah campuses throughout the summer.
You can register for this program here. Please note, you may register throughout the year and into the summer. However, if you would like to apply for scholarships, the deadline to register and apply is April 6, 2018. To apply for scholarships, students need to submit their application form, high school transcripts, a list of achievements (resume), a three-piece portfolio, and a statement of purpose.
For students who have completed junior year:
SCAD also offers a challenging five-week program, which awards college credit to rising high school seniors who are ready for a university experience any of our campuses. Students enroll in two college-level classes and have the opportunity to build or enhance their portfolios. While participating in Rising Star, students utilize university spaces — from classrooms and computer labs to studios and production suites — in the development and completion of class assignments. SCAD libraries, galleries, and other resources are also available. Students participating in the residential program live in a SCAD residence hall, and all students enjoy meals at a SCAD dining hall.
You can apply for SCAD Rising Star here. To apply for scholarships, students should apply before May 1 and submit a 10-piece portfolio and a list of achievements (resume). Applicants are encouraged to apply early as scholarships are limited, very competitive and typically awarded to the earliest qualifiers. SCAD Challenge scholarships can also be applied to this program.
College Application Process:
1. Complete the application either on our website or the CommonApp.
2. Submit high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores.
Technically, you can be accepted solely on your academics! Once students have been accepted, they will automatically be considered for academic scholarships. Then, students should submit a portfolio and resume for achievement-based scholarships.
Supplemental Materials:
3. Portfolio -- visual arts, writing, equestrian, performing arts, or digital media. A full description of each portfolio type and their requirements can be found here. Portfolios are submitted via SlideRoom.
4. Resume -- a list of achievements, whether they be art related or not. This can be a combination of jobs, volunteer efforts, awards, extra curricular activities, public displays or showings of work, etc. These can be submitting directly to students' advisors or through their SCAD MyAdmission portal.
Scholarships:
Academic -- students will automatically be considered for academic scholarship once they have been accepted to SCAD.
Achievement -- this scholarship is based on students' portfolios and resumes.
SCAD Challenge -- additional SCAD scholarship for students who submit an application and portfolio. This can be used for current seniors applying to SCAD or for current juniors applying for SCAD's Rising Star summer program.
Distinguished Scholars Award: See above information
Full descriptions of SCAD scholarships can be found here. We also accept any outside scholarship that will go to a private, out of state school.
